The actual fix, step by step

A Dyson V11 that will not charge has only four real failure modes. Charger dead, dock contacts dirty, battery BMS tripped, or pack cells gone. The triage below sorts them in the right order from cheap to expensive.

  1. Charger output. Probe the barrel or the dock pads with the Fluke 117 set to DC volts. A Dyson V11 charger reads 30.45 V open-circuit. A Hoover ONEPWR reads 21.85 V. A WANDVAC dock reads 24.20 V. Off-spec by more than 2 percent and the charger is the failure.
  2. Dock contacts. 99 percent IPA on a lint-free pad, drag across each contact pad three times in one direction. Black smudge on the pad means the contacts were oxidised, which is why the pack thought it was off the dock.

  4. Pack voltage at rest. Pop the pack, probe the exposed terminals. Under 20 V on a 6S pack, the BMS has tripped a deep-discharge protection state. Leave it on the charger overnight, do not interrupt, the BMS sometimes resets after a slow trickle.

  7. Trigger-test under load. Vacuum should run for 30 seconds on MAX and 5 minutes on regular without dropping out. If it cuts under load with a full LED reading, the pack internal resistance is high and the swap is still due.
