What you need before you start

  3. Clean the separation pad. Located opposite the pickup roller. Same cloth, same technique.
  4. Inspect the ADF scan window. A 5 mm glass strip, easy to miss. Clean with a microfibre cloth.
  5. Load 5 sheets of fresh 80 GSM paper. Fan first to separate, align squarely against the side guide. Test scan from the front panel.
  6. If feed still fails, the pickup roller is worn. Replacement roller costs 400-900 INR depending on model. Bench-level replacement: pull the cover, two screws, swap the roller, reassemble.
  7. If the printer feeds but skews, the separation pad is worn. Same replacement procedure as the pickup roller: usually sold as a kit with the pickup roller.

Verification

The fix held if and only if all of the following are true on the bench:

If any of the four fails, escalate one tier deeper, additional cleaning cycles, a part swap, or a bench-level disassembly. Do not return a printer to a customer until all four pass.

When in doubt, photograph the printer's state before and after each step. A photo timeline of a bench job has cleared more warranty disputes than any verbal explanation. I keep a 64 GB SD card on the bench specifically for photo logs of customer jobs.
