The actual fix, step by step

A non-spinning brush on the Roborock S7 / S7+ is almost never the motor itself. It is one of: hair wrap on the bearing cap, snapped belt, dry bearing, blown fuse on the brush board, or a stripped drive gear. Triage in the order below, it sorts the cheap fixes before the expensive ones.

  1. Pop the brush. Most heads use a coin-lock or a JIS-1 screw on the end cap. Open it, slide the brush out, flip it, look at both end caps. 70 percent of brush stops are a tight wrap of hair around one of the bearings.
  2. Cut the hair wrap. Seam ripper for the dense braids, curved scissors for the fine wisps. Score the wrap parallel to the brush core, peel it off in one strip. Do not nick the bristles or the brush spirals will lose pickup.
  3. Belt check. Where the brush is belt-driven (Eureka, Shark Navigator, Hoover WindTunnel, vintage uprights), the snapped belt is visible the moment you flip the head. Stretchy belts (Hoover 562932001) replace in 4 minutes. Geared belts (Shark 119FFJ) need a guide pin reseated.
  4. Spin the bearings dry. With the brush out, spin each end cap with a thumb. A healthy bearing turns smoothly for 2 to 3 seconds. A dry bearing stops dead. A little white lithium grease (Rs 80 / USD 1) brings 50 percent of dry bearings back to spec.
  5. Brush board fuse. Some heads (Dyson V11 high-torque, V15 fluffy detect) have a 2 A polyswitch fuse on the brush board. If everything mechanical is fine but the brush still does not spin, the fuse is the next suspect. Continuity check with the Fluke 117 across the polyswitch pads decides it.
  6. Swap with Roborock 9.01.1057 S7 main brush + 9.01.1058 brush cover. When the brush itself is the issue, the genuine part lasts about 18 months under normal use. Third-party brushes feel cheap because they are: the bristle density is 30 percent lower and the bearing tolerance is sloppy.
  7. Reassemble and trigger-test. Brush spins on first trigger, no fault LED, suction at the head feels firm.

A bench story that sticks

Two Saturdays ago a customer in Mumbai brought in a Roborock Roborock S7 / S7+ flashing brush-bar fault every 30 seconds. Is there a cheaper non-brand alternative that does the same job?

Yes for filters, no for batteries. Eufy, Mi, Realme stick vacs cost Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000 (USD 95 to USD 240) and do 70 percent of the job for 30 percent of the price. They have shorter life and lower pickup but for a single-bedroom flat, they make sense as a first vacuum. For a 3 BHK with pets, the brand units repay the price difference in lifespan and pickup.
